8thUniverse’s first collection, Trauma f/w 2021 designed to realize the pain and sorrow experienced by the general public during the covid-19 pandemic. The collection was presented and brought to life as violently as covid-19 entered our lives.
The date was the 16th of October 2021, and with the launch party and event rapidly approaching, little to no time was wasted in creating the teaser and photography for the launch of 8thUniverse. With a collection like trauma f/w 2021 with so many complex details, and unique features, the creative team at 8thUniverse budgeted 3 full shooting days, and the perfect dream team to bring the clothing to life.
As an unknown brand we chose the most obvious place to hide our video shoots, the open streets, with teasers and photography being taken right in front of strangers on the streets of Munich. The shoot consists of a patchwork of locations across the city of Munich, featuring plenty of infamous architecture & abstract artwork carefully chosen to reflect the motifs of the clothing.
We begin at Munich HBF, where our dream team flocked from abroad and journeys back to their home, Munich. With everyone collected, we headed on to our first location, a small village setting nestled within the hustle and the bustle of the streets of Munich. As the dream team journeyed the brief introductions with each other quickly turned into a passionate team, working and functioning together, this electric passion of the team was quickly passed on to the creative work & shocked the outfits to life.
The kidnapping scenes focused at the beginning of the Trauma Teaser, features both of our models Lizzy, & Calvin. With many takes these scenes have a key role in transcending the meaning and motif of the art of the clothes into reality. The kidnapping of Calvin & Lizzy have a strong resemblance and meaning for the time of our lives that COVID-19 has robbed us of.
Then after shooting the kidnapping scenes, the team quickly moved onto the next location, a cathedral. The film crew quickly invaded the cathedral with no permission, filming & adding onto the story of Trauma. Fabian Pletzer, the creative director of 8thUniverse, had the idea to fill Lizzy's mouth with fake blood, in the cathedral. After many dirty looks from the visitors of the cathedral, the team moved on unfazed & continued to capture the snapshots that would eventually bring & present the trauma f/w 2021 collection.
We might have smashed glass, & mirrors, but 8thUniverse certainly didn't shatter dreams. The creative direction & implementation was portrayed perfectly & to wrap up the day the team finished the first day of the shoot, by filming in an abandoned park of Munich as the picturesque sunset on the city in the far distance. To end the day, both models each smashed a mirror to create the further resemblance of the clothes motifs of trauma brought to life,
